Kathmandu, November 15 — The Disaster Journalism Network (DJN) has elected a new executive committee during its first general convention, reappointing journalist Amika Rajthala as Chairperson. Rajthala was unanimously chosen to lead the nine-member committee comprising office bearers and executive members.
The newly elected office bearers include Tara Dhakal as Vice-Chairperson, Devi Sapkota as Secretary, and Shobha Manandhar as Treasurer. The executive committee members are Vijaya Tiwari, Amrita Ghimire, Narendra Dhakal, Mahananda Timilsina, and Rupa Aryal.
Established in 2019 as an independent network, the Disaster Journalism Network has been working to strengthen disaster reporting through informed journalistic approaches. Since its institutionalization in 2022, DJN has also been actively engaged in enhancing the capacity and skills of journalists working in disaster and humanitarian contexts.
